International Legal Recruitment
Interlink Recruitment16 September 2019
A little over a year ago we launched our first International legal recruitment desk, with a focus solely on the Middle East. Since then, we’ve expanded our global reach and today we recruit legal professionals across Asia, Australia and the USA too.
Meet our International legal recruitment team and discover more about the different roles and practice areas we recruit for in countries across the world.
Growing market in Asia
Our award-winning apprentice Daniyal Aziz looks after the recruitment for law firms across the Asia region. He works closely with Managing Partners and HR Managers of top UK and US law firms, assisting with their recruitment of Associates, all the way up to Equity Partner level.
Taking care of client and candidate relationships in Hong Kong, Singapore and mainland China, Daniyal understands the importance of confidentiality at senior level in the niche markets where Partners know everyone on the ground. At this time of year, he is especially active in the Dispute Resolution, Corporate, Intellectual Property, Banking & Finance and Regulatory practice groups.
He works closely with both law firms well-established in the region as well as firms with a newer presence, or those looking to open an office in Asia.
Sun, sea and law in Australia
Australia is a new market for us at Interlink and consultant Kyra-Lea has risen to the challenge of starting the desk. With family members who do business there, she understands the culture, the key cities and the commercial activity within. Thanks to the positive economic conditions across the country, last year was a buoyant one for the Australian legal market. This led to an unprecedented demand for lawyers, especially corporate lawyers and those in litigation. The recruitment service we bring to the Australasian market covers all aspects of commercial law as much as business support roles, too. Kyra-Lea is working with firms across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth specifically, starting her day early to have conversations with those on the other side of the world. The challenge is still in its infancy, but with the turmoil felt in the UK at present, there are legal professionals keen to consider a career move to Oz.
Overseeing the Middle East and the International team
There are substantial peaks and troughs to be had in the Middle Eastern market. Not only economically but culturally too. Having just had two Eid holidays and Ramadan in the last quarter, recruitment has slowed a little. But the market is very competitive in these regions and once it restarts, demand and movement are very fast paced. Again, we see enough interest from lawyers looking for a new life start in the Middle East, while our growing reputation in the legal recruitment market there has given plenty of leverage for success.
Looking after the Middle East is our Principal Consultant Awaiz who also manages our International legal recruitment team. Awaiz joined Interlink when we first started our international division and is experienced in building the much-needed relationships to kickstart recruitment in a new territory. He takes a hands-on approach to mentoring any new consultants who join us and offers the necessary guidance through the recruitment process.
Recruitment in the USA
Zara is a new face at Interlink and joins us to head up our legal recruitment offering across the USA. She has strong commercial knowledge and awareness following completion of her Master’s degree in International Business, Finance and Corporate law, plus her time spent working at a law firm. She is actively recruiting for Paralegals and Corporate lawyers for leading law firms across New York, thanks to an increase in corporate activity across the region. Firms in the USA receive the bulk of their revenue from major corporate clients, so while industry growth remains modest, there will be continual need for commercial lawyers.
A healthy international outlook
Such has been the success of what we’re doing overseas, we are looking to hire more recruitment consultants to assist with our international recruitment. From another consultant to work across the Middle East, we are also looking for someone with experience recruiting across Europe, especially Holland and Germany. If you have experience recruiting internationally or have legal experience overseas and would consider a move to legal recruitment, contact us with your details.
If you’re a lawyer looking for a new role in a new territory, have a confidential chat with one of our recruitment consultants today. We can talk you through the more practical issues of a move, with advice on culture in the region as much as the legal roles that are available. Or, if you practise law in any of the countries where we offer our legal recruitment services, and seek a new opportunity, contact us for an initial conversation in confidence.
