Time spent in PI law
From getting my law degree at Keele University, I went on to do the LPC at the Chester College of Law and since then have been a PI lawyer for ten years, with five of those spent PQE. To start with I was doing mostly Paralegal jobs in Manchester, working for a panel of Solicitors for Insurers. It was then at a Manchester-based law firm where I did my training, qualifying in Personal Injury in February 2013. I have spent the last four years working, again predominantly on PI work, at Graham Coffey and Co before deciding to take a different route on my career journey.
Recommended to try recruitment
It was my colleague here at Interlink Recruitment, Sarah Newby, who I have known for several years, who recommended recruitment to me. She has always felt I have the right skills and personality for it, in terms of talking to people and the engagement that comes with such work, meeting and greeting people. Plus, I was ready for a change after so many years working at a desk, doing Personal Injury. What I didn’t want to do was leave legal behind forever – this way I get to blend my legal knowledge with recruitment, which is perfect for me. Recruitment is a refreshing change, it’s completely different to what I was doing before and although there’s lots of knowledge to acquire with the process itself and the different job roles, I am very much enjoying the new challenge.
Legal recruitment in Manchester
My role here at Interlink Recruitment sees me recruit qualified lawyers across all commercial disciplines in the Manchester region, from Paralegal to those at more senior level. Even in my first couple of weeks I have been busy and each day is different from the last. I get time out and about away from the office when I am meeting clients and candidates which brings added variety and makes for an interesting day.
I also work in a gym
My Monday to Friday is focussed on legal recruitment and at the weekends I am a duty manager at a gym. It’s something I started a few years back when I was doing my LPC. There were not a lot of jobs around back then, so I doubled up my time at University with working at the gym and part-time at Cotton Traders. The gym has stuck because it’s something I love doing.
When I am not at work
Food, fitness and films are my social passions – I love trying new restaurants, going to the cinema and I play 5-a-side football. In fact, we are looking to get a 5-a-side football team together here at Interlink Recruitment and take part in a local league, so if there are any law firms out there looking for a game, then please get in touch! I used to play a lot of league football a few years back too, but I found it too time consuming to continue with.
I once met…
The wrestler British Bulldog at a water theme park in Orlando. I couldn’t believe it when I saw him! He was a really nice guy and even took the time to have a photo.
