Holly Brown, Senior Consultant04 November 2019
As demand for our legal recruitment services across London continues to grow, we recently welcomed Holly to our team. With her financial background, she brings an astute focus to her work. And since making a move to legal recruitment, she shows a genuine passion for all things legal. Read on to find out more about Holly…
Before recruitment, you spent time in self-employment within the financial services sector. What did this involve and what brought you to such a career choice?
Whilst I was self-employed, I worked closely with IFAs across the country to secure the best investment routes for their clients, as well as providing clients who wish to seek out investment advice. I did this for three years before I decided to get into a more stable profession.
How did recruitment come about after that and what areas did you specialise in?
My first recruitment role was with a well-known Finance recruitment company where I specialised in Finance, Risk & Compliance. Due to my background in the asset management and finance sector I had a good understanding of the industry and transferable skills which helped me to succeed in my role.
How does recruiting for the banking & finance sector compare to legal?
I find the legal sector much more interesting to recruit in! I could speak to my candidates all day about the interesting cases they are working on, and every day I learn something new which I feel is so important in order to stay engaged in your role.
What are the biggest challenges for you in recruitment? And what do you enjoy the most about it?
What I enjoy the most is getting to know my candidates needs and wants and placing them in their dream job! I get a lot of fulfilment from that aspect of recruitment. Also, we are dealing with extremely busy people so it can be challenging to pin people down!
You work within the London team – what does your role involve?
I look after two practice areas in London, White Collar Crime and Banking & Finance. I recruit from NQ level up to Partner with more of a focus on the senior end of the market.
Have you any personal goals / challenges for the next few years?
My goals at Interlink are to surpass my billing targets and get promoted by my one-year anniversary! My personal goals are just to carry on visiting as many different countries as I can.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Are you in any teams or volunteer groups?
I volunteer at a local homeless shelter most weekends and enjoy going on hikes and long walks in the country.
Looking at the London market and the areas you recruit for, what would you say are the biggest challenges for law firms when recruiting at present?
The market is very competitive and very busy, which has its positives and negatives. One of the challenges this brings is that at any one time, a good candidate can have a handful of options to choose from. So how do firms differentiate themselves from their competitors? Our consultative approach can really assist our clients with portraying their individual offerings and culture to help ensure a smooth process in a competitive market.
Tell us something about yourself we’d never know…
I used to be a competitive swimmer when I was younger. I swam for Heywood before being scouted for Bury but made the decision to give it up when I reached sixteen as the training was so intense.
