Introducing Jessica in our Business Support team

Jessica recently joined Interlink Recruitment where she works alongside the business support team to recruit professionals in finance, administration and marketing for law firms. She shares insight into her life outside of the office and her exciting time spent working in Australia. Find out more…

Where did you study and why did you choose the course you did?   
I studied for 3 years at The University of Chester. I chose to study Counselling as it is something that is close to my heart for a number of reasons. I volunteered at a care home for about 6 years and a lot of the residents have mental health problems. I always wanted to be able to do more to help.

You went travelling after University, was this something you’d always wanted to do? What led to you make the decision?
Yes, I wanted to see the world from a very young age. I did a lot of travelling with my parents when I was younger. I love learning about other people’s way of life and different cultures. One day I decided it was time for a change of scenery so I sold everything I owned and booked a one-way flight!

You spent time working in a legal department in Melbourne, Australia. What did the role involve and what was life like, working in Australia compared to here in the UK?
I work as an Executive Assistant to four directors in the Legal Division in The Department of Education and Training. I absolutely loved it, my main duties involved calendar management, organising travel, minute taking and setting up agendas. The whole lifestyle in Australia is fabulous. I think nice weather just puts everyone in a good mood. Everyone is really friendly and I built a lot of strong relationships during my time at DET.

Is this your first time working in recruitment? And what do you enjoy about working as a recruiter?   
Yes, it is. I’m enjoying building relationships with clients and candidates. I also like how every day is different. There is never time to be bored.

How have you settled in to life at Interlink Recruitment? Are you enjoying it so far…?
I have settled in really well. I think it’s important to maintain relationships with colleagues inside and outside of work and I’m making quite a lot effort to do that. Coming from an Executive Assistant role to recruitment I was definitely thrown in at the deep end but I have made my first placement, which hopefully, is the first of many.

Have you any personal goals / challenges for the next few years?  
Well, I’m currently saving to buy a house but apart from that just to get settled with my career here at Interlink.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work, to relax and unwind? Are you part of any teams, volunteer groups or anything like that?
I enjoy keeping fit, I go to the gym most evenings and I’m actually starting Karate next week!

Do you live locally?  If yes, what do you enjoy most about the area where you live?
I live in Salford Quays. I love the location as I’m so close to the city centre but far enough to avoid the traffic!

Tell us something about yourself we’d never know – an interesting fact, talent or anything else…
In December 2018, I climbed to Mt. Everest base camp which is an 80-mile round trip. I struggled a lot with altitude sickness, but I made it. It is by far the hardest but most rewarding thing I have ever done.
