Fundraising for Francis House
Beth Johnson, Office Manager07 January 2019
I can’t believe its 2019! Where has the time gone…? As we leave 2018 behind, we remember all the fantastic things we did throughout the year to raise money for our chosen charity Francis House Children’s Hospice.
Back in January 2018 we set a goal of raising £5,000 for Francis House and I am proud to say we exceeded this! Through team activities and initiatives to bigger challenges, we managed to reach our target amount. From dress down days to watching World Cup matches, all the team chipped in regularly to help us fundraise as much as receiving donations from friends, family and clients. I want to say a massive thank you to all those who donated throughout the year - we couldn’t have done it without you!
Adam’s Tash for Cash
One of the biggest and most entertaining events we did to raise money (I say we but it was mostly Adam who did the hard work), was Adam’s Tash for Cash. It was so big (the fundraising not the actual tash!) we decided to do it twice.
Speaking to Adam about growing extra facial hair all for a good cause, he says, “I was absolutely delighted and privileged to be involved with Francis House and humbled at the support everyone offered me to raise some money for an incredible charity. To be able to make even a small difference is the best feeling anyone one can have. When our Commercial Director asked me if growing a ‘tash’ was something I would be prepared to do, I jumped at the chance. Looking like a fool for a good cause is more than worthwhile, I thought.
Twice grown for extra dosh
‘Tash For Cash’ was a great success, and even though I did this February/March, and got more stick as it was not during November, when many others partake, it was a tremendous experience. We joked that as long as the ‘tash’ was off before my daughter was born – she was due end of March – and this wasn’t the first thing that she saw – all was good. Clients, colleagues, friends and family were all brilliant. Who did I look like? We had a host of willing suggestions. From Pablo Escabar, to Poirot, to Nigel Mansell, to the bloke from the Go Compare ads.
It was such a success that I repeated the experience in November and grew another ‘tash’ until early December. The encouraging words of our Commercial Director reminding me each morning of ‘no trimmage’ and regular inspections provided much light relief, as actually I found the second time was slightly more difficult. Attending work events and client meetings was always amusing, as people sometimes didn’t know whether to comment at all, in case the ‘tash’ was genuine.
A big thank you to everyone who supported me throughout the ‘Tash for Cash’ initiative, and for all the support throughout the year in our fundraising for Francis House.”
Adam raised over £2000 alone doing these 2 events, Adam we can’t thank you enough for being such a good sport throughout!
Getting physical for Francis House
Some of the team were involved in sporting challenges throughout the year - we took part in the both the Great Manchester Run and the Cheshire 3 Peaks.
Consultants Jessica Penrice and Sophie Gwilliam completed the Great Manchester Run on one of Manchester’s hottest days! Between them they raised £500 for Francis House. Jess did the 10k and enjoyed it so much, she is looking forward to taking it on again this year, although this time with more training, ready to beat her PB.
Sophie’s 13.1 miles
Sophie ran the half marathon distance and says of her experience, “After visiting Francis House last year, I saw what an amazing job they do to give poorly children and their families some joy! I wanted to do my bit to raise some money to support them and I needed a challenge! I like to keep fit and healthy and thought a half marathon would be a good place to start. I began training a few months before, aiming to do 3 or 4 long runs a week and I managed to fit a gym session in between those too. With my running app I could see my time and distance improving - it got addictive in the end with me wanting to improve on my last run!
When it came to race day, I was excited but did not feel too confident having had a very late night before hand singing at a gig. But I made sure to fill up on lots of carbs to give me energy! Race day morning came, and the sun was shining; I put my new leggings and Francis house T- shirt on and joined the thousands of other runners to soak up the atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was the hottest day of the year which made running conditions harder, but I kept hydrated and managed to run it in 1 hour 40 mins.
A real sense of achievement, the icing on the cake, having raised £500 for such a fantastic charity! Now onto the full marathon… I am not so sure!”
Hiking their way to success
Back in August last year, a team of around seven people from Interlink completed the Cheshire 3 Peaks challenge organised by Francis House, and between them all, another £500 was raised. Conveyancing Recruitment Consultant Chloe Wood tackled the hills and recalls, “Doing the Cheshire 3 Peaks was very challenging and although at times it was tough, I thoroughly enjoyed it, taking in some of the stunning scenery. I felt very happy at the end knowing I had accomplished something and it felt very rewarding knowing it was for such a great cause.
There were some stiff, aching bodies in the office on the next day, but all were thankful for the excellent experience – as well as spending an enjoyable afternoon completing a challenge together, they raised another great amount to add to our yearly total.
Doing it all again for 2019
Although 2018 is over we will continue to raise money for Francis House in 2019. We have a number of events already in the pipeline, and the first has already started with several of the team giving up alcohol for the whole of January. It’s bound to be difficult for some, but I am confident they will do it and get us off to a great start with our fundraising total. Keep an eye out on our social media for the fundraising events we have planned in the future and if you would like to donate to Francis House, please visit our page here.
Interlink Recruitment has selected Francis House Children’s Hospice as its chosen charity for 2019. The team will be committing themselves to challenges and activities once again to raise money for this amazing place where children and young adults with life threatening conditions can receive appropriate care and the necessary support for their families.
